What It Is
With this option, the priority is to maintain the directory structure, even if that means sharing some elements more broadly than on the source system. Permissions may be mapped at any level. However, for every item, all children of that item will have the permissions of the parent folder or their specific mapping, whichever is the least restrictive. As you descend the directory tree, you can always have more shares, but you cannot have fewer shares than the parent.
When To Choose It
Choose this option when you are moving from a structure that had a lot of different organic sharing over time and you want to use the data migration to normalize sharing.
Example
Source Structure
On the source, we have a directory structure that is shared as follows:
Engineering: shared with “Engineering”, “Product Management”
- Project Alpha: shared with “Engineering”, “Product Management”
- Project Beta: shared with “Engineering”, “Bob Johnson”
Marketing: shared with “Marketing”
- User Studies: shared with “Marketing”, “Designers”
- Personas: shared with “Designers”, half of the marketing users
- Digital and PPC: shared with some of the marketing users, “Digital Agency”
Target Structure
On the target, you want the following directory structure shared as follows:
Engineering: shared with “Engineering”, “Product Management”
- Project Alpha: shared with “Engineering”, “Product Management”
- Project Beta: shared with “Engineering”, “Product Management”, “Bob Johnson”
Marketing: shared with “Marketing”
- User Studies: shared with “Marketing”, “Designers”
- Personas: shared with “Designers”, “Marketing”
- Digital and PPC: shared with “Marketing”, “Digital Agency”
What Changed
In the move from source to target, the following things changed:
- Project Alpha: is now shared with the “Product Management” group because the parent folder (Engineering) is shared with the “Product Management” group
- Project Beta: is now shared with the “Product Management” group because the parent folder (Engineering) is shared with the “Product Management” group
- Personas: is now shared with the “Marketing” group because the parent folder (Marketing) is shared with the “Marketing” group
- Digital and PPC: is now shared with the “Marketing” group because the parent folder (Marketing) is shared with the “Marketing” group
How to Accomplish It in CFP
Source System Type: select any source
Target System Type: select any target
Source Account(s): Any number
Target Account(s): Any number
Job Settings:
- Select “User and Permission Mapping”
- Select either “owner-based mapping” or “path-based mapping”. Either will work.
- Select either “create top level folder” or “move contents only”. Either will work.
Spreadsheet:
- Delete all rows that are marked “skip” (Note that you can filter to make this easier)
- Upload the resulting spreadsheet
